A re-telling of the early days of the JLA. Perhaps the most notable difference to the original being the replacing of Wonder Woman with Black Canary.

The new JLA was a clear hit, but its past was somewhat foggy. Since the team debuted in the 1960s with a lineup consisting of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, the Flash and Green Lantern, the timelines of half its founding fathers had been reinvented. 1985's Crisis on Infinite Earths maxi series, along with the subsequent relaunches of the Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman franchises, had led to the history of DC's premier team becoming a bit jangled. In an early attempt to clear up the JLA's time line, November 1988's Secret Origin's #32 confirmed that Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman were no longer founding members of the team, and inserted the Silver Age Black Canary into the mix in their place.

With only this brief glimpse of the team's beginnings, fans were left wondering exactly how the Justice League began. It was up to writers Mark Waid and Brian Augustyn and artist Barry Kitson to fill in the blanks. With their 12-issue maxi series JLA: Year One, the trio examined the early days of the team. Involving clashes with classic foes, great characterization, heroic guest stars and a grand - scale alien invasion, JLA: Year One proved a success and cleaned up decades of convoluted comic history.
