Originally intended to be an ongoing series, Spider-Woman spun out of Marvel's 2008 Secret Invasion event and was the third ongoing series of the title but only the second to star Jessica Drew in the role. The series was delayed for nearly a year due to the decision to release the series in print and as a motion comic at the same time. This decision would also be the series' downfall. The extra work involved in producing the series also as a motion comic quickly exhausted artist Alex Maleev, and he wanted to move on to other projects upon the completion of Spider-Woman's first and only story arc. Rather than continue the series without Maleev, writer Brian Michael Bendis chose to instead end it there.

Plot Summary

Jessica Drew struggles to cope with the emotional aftereffects her Skrull abduction and the fact that Skrull Queen Veranke made her the face of the attempted Skrull invasion. She is approached by Abigail Brand, director of S.W.O.R.D., with an offer to hunt down the remaining Skrulls on Earth as an agent of S.W.O.R.D. and use that to work through her issues. Jessica's first mission takes her into the heart of Madripoor and has her not only facing off against Skrulls but her old enemy Viper.

Collected in Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D.
