Such attention had not gone unnoticed by DC or Marvel, with both sides ready to compete with each other for publishing rights.

Thankfully, brains, courage, and heart prevailed, as DC and Marvel executives agreed to collaborate on tabloid -sized, MGM - authorized treasury edition. Roy Thomas scripted a faithful, 72 page adaptation of Dorothy Gale's adventure, while John Buscema's artwork depicted the landscape of Oz in lavish detail.
