Umbral is a dark fantasy book following Rascal, a teenage girl in the Thieve's Guild whose world is turned upside down when she conspires with the prince to steal a ceremonial trinket during a solar eclipse. She learns that shadowy creatures from another realm have invaded her own world and are searching for the item she stole, the Oculus, and have already killed and replaced most of the people she knows, including the royal family and her Guildmaster. Rascal is forced to team up with a mysterious old man named Dalone who seems to know more than he is letting on.
