Thanks to his appearances in Detective Comics and Batman, Man-Bat's popularity soared to the point where writer Gerry Conway and artist Steve Ditko launched the flying mammal into his own series. Kirk Langstrom swooped in to save his wife, Francine, whom the sorcerer Baron Tyme turned into the vampire She-Bat. After fighting Batman to convince him of Tyne's involvement, Man-Bat tracked the sorcerer to Antioke University. A struggle ended in a fire that seemingly killed Tyme. Man-Bat didn't fare much better; his series ended after just two issues.
