When student Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein get caught up in an explosion at a nuclear reactor plant, the two fuse together to become Firestorm, the nuclear man. Because Stein was unconscious at the time of the explosion, Raymond is the active one, but can "hear" the professor talking to him in the Firestorm persona and vice versa. This run only lasted 5 issues before falling victim to the DC Implosion of the late 70's.
