Origins

Team Red consists of three unnamed individuals that are a part of The Initiative. On their first mission, they successfully took down the recent incarnation of the Sinister Syndicate, consisting of Shocker, Boomerang, and Hydro-Man. When War Machine was battling with the original Spider-Man, he mentioned the possibility of replacing him so that they do not leave the world without a Spider-Man. They were also part of the Shadow Initiative, the "Black Ops" of The Initiative along with Trauma, Bengal, Constrictor and Mutant Zero. In the events of the World War Hulk, their were deployed by Henry Gyrich to save The Initiative members captured by the Warbound. They were forced to publicly exposed themselves when protecting Baron Von Blitzschlag from criminals wearing the Vulture flying exosuits, as well as they have to deal with a very angry Peter Parker. They morphed their suit into looking like Peter and they stated that Peter has always been in their team, but was kicked out because of attitude problems, so there have been speculation in the public as to Peter being the real Spider-Man with the appearance of the Scarlet Spiders. Because of their actions, Henry Peter Gyrich decided to remove them from the Shadow Initiative and place them with the Initiative trainees on Camp Hammond. They are now being trained by the new drill instructor, Taskmaster on how to execute Spider-Man's moves that he had memorized on past confrontations. When another MVP clone, named K.I.A. (Killed In Action) goes on a killing spree to avenge the original MVP's death, armed with Armory's Tactigon, he managed to decapitate one of the Scarlet Spiders, Van, who was trying to calm him down. With the help of the other Initiative members, they manage to defeat KIA. After that, the two remaining Scarlet Spiders left the Initiative and joined up Justice's team, " Counter Force". When Ragnarok, the cybernetic Thor clone wreaked havoc in Camp Hammond, the Scarlet Spiders came to the rescue along with Counter Force, who are calling themselves as the New Warriors, who were just in time to rescue Gorilla Girl. Even though Ragnarok was defeated by the New Warriors, it manage to kill Michael, leaving Patrick the only surviving Scarlet Spider. Patrick then publicly unmasked himself in front of the media and admitted to them that the Initiative had cloned deceased Initiative member MVP. This was the only excuse that Norman Osborn needed to shut down Camp Hammond.
Patrick has since left the Initiative in favor of joining Tigra's group, The Avengers Resistance, and in a brief confrontation with his "father" Baron Von Blitzschlag, Patrick refused to rejoin the Initiative, even if it meant the ressurection of the other two Scarlet Spiders would never happen.

Powers and Abilities

Their predecessor, MVP, had optimum intelligence, endurance, stamina, strength and agility without being considered superhuman. Unlike Captain America, who derived his abilities to the Super Soldier Serum injected to him, MVP conditioned himself by what can described as the "ultimate" exercise regime and a "revolutionary" diet. All of these are possessed by the clones, plus the move set of Spider-Man taught to them by Taskmaster.

They wore special suits: The Stark armor, Iron Spider costume. Supported by a system similar to that of Stark's classic Iron Man armor design. It features many gadgets, including four mechanical spider-arms, or waldoes, that can be used to see around corners (via cameras in the tips) and to manipulate objects indirectly.

Other features include short-distance gliding capability, limited bulletproofing, built-in fire/police/emergency scanner, audio/visual amplification (including infrared and ultraviolet), cloaking device, carbon filters to keep out airborne toxins, and a short-range GPS microwave communication system. It grants the ability to breathe under water, and can morph into different shapes due to its smart liquid metal form. It can also more or less disappear when not needed.

Under the Masks

The Scarlet Spiders are really clones of MVP, a recruit of The Initiative recommended by Justice. When he was (seemingly) killed during a training exercise, his body was cloned and used to make the Scarlet Spiders: Michael, Van, and Patrick.
