History

Ajax Comics Group

Graphic Fantasy

Much like the earliest exploits of The Dragon BEFORE his mainstream debut at Image Comics in 1992, The S.O.S. was originally called "The Society of Superheroes" in the short lived Graphic Fantasy comic book series published by Ajax Comic Group in 1982 by a young Erik Larsen.

By 2023, this version of S.O.S. was revisited in Paul Dragon's origin story of how he came to be and how he came to the mainstream Image Comics Universe.

Image Comics

Savage Dragon

In 1997, Erik Larsen revived his concept of S.O.S. to Image Comics. This time he renamed to "Special Operations Strikeforce". In this new continuity, S.O.S. was formed when The Savage Dragon was approached by the U.S. Government to form a super-human task-force to replace Youngblood after they were disbanded when Knight Sabre was tried for Riptide's murder.
