Originally an insectoid race found on one of the planets conquered by the Reach, the species would dig into the bodies of larger organisms and then assume control of their nervous system. The Reach developed this into a bioweapon. With their alterations, they affix themselves to a planet's dominant lifeforms, taking over and using the knowledge it gains from its host to destroy their defenses.
