Lin Kuei (林鬼) is a Chinese ninja clan in Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise.
Creation
The Lin Kuei clan, which appeared in the first Mortal Kombat game (1992), is the clan of the ice-powered ninja Sub-Zero. According to the Mortal Kombat's co-creator, John Tobias, the inspiration came from Li Hsing's book China's Ninja Connection (1984), a book that is considered fraudulent, created by an American with a Chinese pseudonym, according to historians, ninjas have origins in Japan, not in China. In the role-playing game book GURPS Martial Arts (1990), written by C. J. Carella, there is also a quote from the Lin Kuei, possibly inspired by Li Hsing's book.
