Stan Drake was an American comic artist, known for The Heart of Juliet Jones, Kelly Green and his work for Marvel Comics.

Born in 1921, Drake contributed art to pulp magazines such as Popular Detective, Popular Sports and more at the early age of 17. He entered the comic book field and became friends with Bob Lubbers, who later suggested he draw newspaper comics. He studied at New York's Art Student's League for two years, and after WWII, he went into advertising, eventually heading a studio of 12 illustrators. His most well known works are The Heart of Juliet Jones, a long-running soap-opera styled comic strip, and Kelly Green, a series of graphic novels about a crime-fighting young widow. Drake was admired and revered for his then-groundbreaking use of a multitude of varied expressions in his figures, something unusual in the field. One of those that revered this was the Legendary Alex Raymond, creator of Flash Gordon.

Car Accident

Drake was the other passenger in the September 1956 automobile accident that killed fellow comic veteran Alex Raymond. Drake barely survived, but continued to do comic work for quite some time after. Drake passed away in 1997, at the age of 75.
