Jonathan Vankin gave up a career in journalism to write comics for Vertigo.  Find more of a passion to behind the scenes, Jonathan Vankin became an editor for Vertigo.  A very brave and bold editor who was willing to try new things, such as more Original Graphic Novels and also bring Harvey Pekar over to Vertigo.

With many of his titles suffering financially and the death of Harvey Pekar, it became obvious that there was little room for him in the restructuring of DC Comics.  It was announce in late September of 2010 that Jonathan Vankin alongside rising star editor Pornsak Pichetshote would be laid off from Vertigo.  With the company focusing on finance figures, many of the current Vertigo titles had to be reevaluated.

Vankin is set to restart his comics writing career again starting in the DCU, his first assignment is to write the mini-series Brightest Day aftermath: The search for Swamp Thing.
