The Sandals of Hermes grant safe passage through the Air of Chaos, the mystical field between Mans World and Paradise Island. Though not absolutely necessary for Wonder Woman, they make the journey much smoother. They also allow whoever wears them great speed and the ability to fly. Artemis wore them along with the Gauntlet of Atlas during her time as Wonder Woman. Hippolyta used them to battle Imperiex Probes during the invasion in Our Worlds At War. Cassandra Sandsmark uses them shortly after meeting Wonder Woman. Pythia, an Amazon, stole them from Diana's room during War of the Gods in order to find Julia Kapatelis.
