The Source Vault is an artifact than combines elements from kryptonian technology and amazonian elements, all designed by Batman and including elements from the fourth world/apokolipsian technology. It was built after conclude than a massive attack of Apokolips could bring the total annihilation of life on earth (earth-2) and it would serve as a "ark" to save the earth biosphere and rebuilt it on the same planet or in a new one.

After the final attack from Apokolips than destroyed earth the survivors moved to a new world than orbited a binary system, the new earth-2, to start again. Under unknonw circunstances, the source vault fell in the hands of Terry Sloane, who wants to use it to rewritte all life on earth at his will, opposed to the will of Alan Scott, who wants to stop the process.
