Facing the choice of either exile with the Amazons or being a depowered human Diana chose the latter. She also decided to quit her job in army intelligence and to open a fashion boutique in New York City. This boutique came to be run by her and also by a runaway that she took in, Cathy. Diana would use the store as her base of operations and would become familiar with some of the occupants of her neighbourhood. During a confrontation with a neighbourhood gang, the store was incinerated but later rebuilt. Diana eventually sold the store to fund an expedition to Tibet.
