Vert: is where you get to skate on vertical ramps. X-Games has a vert skating competition.

Pool: is where you get to skate on Del Mar like pools except sometimes they're made just for skating.

Street: is where you get to skate on streets by grinding rails and benches, doing tricks over stair sets, and walls to ride on. Most people who skate on streets usually experience harassment from cops who charge them with vandalism and destruction of both private and public property.

Freestyle: freestyle skating is one of the oldest types of skateboarding and was famous in the 1960's. It's where the tricks are choreographed and extreme balance skills are needed. One of the most famous freestyle/street skaters is Rodey Mullen.
