They are often not very serious (at least contextually compared to other comic series), and have really convoluted storylines involving a new character that the corporation or Government agency has created.
The created character is usually the main protagonist who is helped by a super hero or the main antagonist, sometimes poorly done through being the personification of an abstract concept or disease.
