DC Comics launched the Impact line (stylized as !mpact) in 1991 as means of reaching younger audiences and attempted to reach kids unaware of the direct market comic stores by shipping the books to news stands.
The Impact line made use of a license from Archie Comics to publish their Red Circle heroes such as The Shield and The Fly.
The sales were generally poor and the line was ended in 1993.
