Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963. He was raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. At fourteen years old Michael's father, James, and his mother, Delores, built him and his older brother a regulation sized basketball court in the backyard. Michael attended Laney High in Wilmington N.C. He was a versatile athlete competing in: track, football and baseball. In his junior year Michael made the junior varsity basketball team averaging 28 points a game as the starting point guard. By his senior year Michael makes the varsity basketball squad and attains a five star recruiting ranking, getting a plethora of scholarship offers from multiple colleges. Ultimately, Michael attends The University of North Carolina in 1981. Michael Jordan ends his freshman season averaging 13.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In the championship game against Georgetown, Michael hits the game winning shot, giving the Tarheels their first championship. Michael improves in his sophomore season, finishing the season averaging 20 points, 5.5 rebounds and 78 steals. Michael declared for the NBA draft in his junior season, effectively ending his college career. In 1984 (before the NBA draft) Michael makes the Olympic basketball team. The U.S won the gold medal with Michael Jordan averaging 17.1 points a game. With the third pick in the 1984 draft Michael Jordan was selected by the Chicago Bulls. Before the start of the season Michael racked up a ton of endorsements including his "Air Jordan" shoes. By the end of his rookie season Michael Jordan led the league in points (2,313) and was voted Rookie of the Year. An injury to Michael's left foot kept him benched for most of his second season. In the 1986 playoffs in game two against the Boston Celtics Michael Jordan scored 63 points setting an NBA record. After the game Larry Bird made the famous quote; "I think he's god disguised as Michael Jordan." During the first game of the 1987 season Michael sets another record by scoring 50 points against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. At the end of the 1987-1988 season Michael wins the Most Valuable Player award. In the 1990-1991 season Michael Jordan wins the MVP award once again. The Bulls also defeat the Lakers in game 5 of the NBA Finals giving the Bulls their first championship.

Michael Jordan is a very influential person in the world. His name and face is recognizable world wide. The number 23 is associated with him just as much as his name is to basketball. He led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA Championships.
