Origin

On Earth-31913, during a time period similar to Earth-616's Old West, Patrick O'Hara made his living as a trick shooter. Between tricks, he would tell tall tales of his many adventures, none of which were true. He traveled with a medicine show run by a Doctor Morbius whom Pat considered a snake oil salesman. He shouldn't have doubted him though. When his "elixir of change" spilled on a spider that later bit Patrick, he started exhibiting spider-like abilities.

Creation

Web-Slinger is technically first seen in Amazing Spider-Man (2014) #9 by Dan Slott and Giuseppe Camuncoli, as one of many Spider-Man variants in the The Great Web of Life and Destiny, foreshadowing his eventual introduction.

Major Story Arcs

Spider-Verse

When The Inheritors targeted possible Spider-Totems across the multiverse, a number of the Spider-Heroes banded together as the Web-Warriors. O'Hara was recruited by Miles Morales on a special mission for reinforcements.

Dead Tree

When news of "marauders" ambushing a wagon bound for the town of Dead Tree, O'Hara put down his drink in the saloon and ventured out into the wilderness to find them. What he found was his old traveling companion, Dr. Morbius, who had been experimenting with the elixir on himself. It unfortunately turned him into a vampire.

He had kidnapped children from the wagon under a trance so that he could feed on them to keep his vitality in the search for a cure. Morbius and his other vampire goons took on O'Hara, but, in the scuffle, a lantern was knocked over, causing a fire that creeped closer and closer to Morbius' chemicals. Whatever was left of Morbius' humanity came to the surface. He demanded O'Hara save the children before the chemicals ignited.

O'Hara and the children narrowly escape the explosion, but Morbius was not as lucky.

Spider-Geddon

While using Inheritor cloning tech, Doc Ock of 616 opened the door for the Inheritors to return. He brought together a new version of the Web Warriors to take them on, but they failed. The team then split up when they couldn't decide on what to do next. Web-Slinger was recruited for Doc Ock's new splinter group.

Doc’s plan was to destroy the cloning vats, while Miles Morales and his half of the Web Warriors attacked the Inheritors. Spider-Punk didn't appreciate using their fellow Spider-Heroes as a diversion, so he led most of Ock's team including O'Hara to rescue them. With the cloning tech out of order, both teams retreated to Leopardon to escape. Unfortunately, a body for Solus had already been produced. The Inheritors only needed to simply upload his memory.

With Solus back, Doc and the 616 Scarlet Spider went off on their own to trick the Inheritors into feeding on Scarlet Spider’s corrupted spider power, but Miles led his team, including O'Hara, after them anyway. Just as the fight with the Inheritors kicks off, Ghost Spider and 616’s Peter Parker teleport in with an army of Spider-Heroes. Together, they pile on and vanquish the Inheritors. Using their own clone tech against them, they respawn the Inheritors as infants to give them a second chance at doing the right thing.

The Lone Stranger

After dealing with a craven train bandit (a variant of Kraven), O'Hara comes across Miles Morales, who was lost in the multiverse trying to re-map the Great Web of Life and Destiny. Recognizing him from the Spider-Verse team-ups, O'Hara lets Miles stick with him as he settles down for the night in front of a campfire. Just then, they are met by a scared woman running through the dark.

She was from a town on the other side of the border that was being abused by El Escorpion (a variant of Scorpion) and his gang. O'Hara and Miles decide to do something about it. Miles takes on Escorpion's henchman, while O'Hara duals him. O'Hara with his web-shooter and Escorpion with his poison tipped chain hook. Escorpion thought he got the best of O'Hara, but using his "rider sense," he was able to get Spider-Horse to donkey kick Escorpion in the back of the head.

As Miles shows up to tend to O'Hara's wounds, he is teleported to the next world, leaving O'Hara to get all the glory.

Powers and Abilities

Spider-Hero: Patrick has the proportionate strength, speed, and agility of a spider.

• Rider Sense: He has a psychic connection to his horse, Widow.
• Reflexes: His enhanced reflexes allow for better marksmanship

Cowboy: Patrick is very adept with pistol shooting and horse riding.

• Kisser: Specially designed gun that shoots webbing.
• Biter: A normal six shooter

Ultimate Spider-Man

Web-Slinger appeared in two episodes in season 4 of this Spider-Man animated series. As the main Spider-Man travels the multiverse he meets Web-Slinger as he is getting thrown out of a saloon. This version of Spider-Man is unique to other Spider-Men in that his Uncle Ben was not dead and became that world's variant of The Phantom Rider.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Web-Slinger appears as a member of Miguel O'Hara's Spider Society, an alliance of spider-variants from the multiverse, who work together to keep the Web of Life and Destiny together. He is one of the first spider-variants that Miles bumps into when he reaches the society's headquarters. He sides with Miguel when he turns on Miles. He is briefly voiced by Taran Killam.
