The Broker was one of the characters who appeared in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. This version of the Broker is a Xandarian pawnbroker whom Peter Quill planned to sell the Orb to, as the broker served as a go-between between Quill and the Collector. Unlike his villainous 616 counterpart, this version of the Broker is portrayed as kind and generous (if a bit nervous and cowardly). He was portrayed by Christopher Fairbank.

The Broker is seen on three separate occasions in the film. The first such occasion occurs after Peter Quill retrieves the orb and asks what it is, wherein the broker replies that it's his policy not to tell. Peter then complains that he risked his life to get it, and lets it slip that he encountered "some machine-headed freak workin' for a dude named Ronan". After hearing this The broker informs Peter Quill that he wants "no part of this transaction if Ronan is involved" and forces Peter Quill out of his shop.

"I can't tell if you're joking or not"

The Broker is seen a second time in the film: shortly after Peter Quill and four other escaped Kyln prisoners are en route to Knowhere, Kraglin and Yondu are seen visiting the Broker's Shop. While Yondu fawns over and expresses an interest in purchasing a tiny glass frog-like figurine, the Broker remarks that he "Can't tell" if Yondu is "joking or not" when Yondu remarks that he likes to collect similar figurines and put them on his control console; Kraglin responds that Yondu is "Fully Serious". The Broker proceeds to retrieve the figurine from the case, only to be stopped by Yondu (who demands to know what about the Orb is so important to everyone). After trying to explain that his buyers are typically elite, close-knit, and extremely confidential, The Broker is finally threatened by Yondu (who had continually interrupted him) with impalement by a psychic arrow into revealing the identity of the buyer whom he'd intended to sell the orb to. Presumably he reveals the identity of both the Orb and the Collector; Yondu later claims that he knows what the orb is and is seen with the glass figurine he'd wanted.

The Broker makes his third and final appearance during the film's climax, as he is one of a group of onlookers who watch as Ronan attempts to destroy Xandar using the Power Stone that had been contained in the Orb.
