Origin

Tamara Devoux was involved in a car accident which left her in a coma for 10 years. The Uni-Power then possessed Tamara to become sentient on Earth due to the planet being "significant." It chooses Tamara specifically as it states that both she and the Uni-Power are dying. In the wake of an ambitious plan to expand the horizon of the Avengers, Tamara would be noticed by Tony Stark and Steve Rogers and she would be recruited into the Avengers.

As Captain Universe, Tamara would assist in rescuing an Avengers team from the clutches of an Ex Nihilo, Abyss and Aleph. The former individuals would reluctantly cede to Captain Universe, recognizing its standing within the universe, however the Aleph would attack and subsequently be destroyed. Captain Universe would give Ex Nihilo and Abyss some advice and direction, including that Adam, also Nightmask be sent to Earth. After her first outing as an Avenger, Tamara would go through periods of living as herself with her own views and agency, and switching back to Captain Universe. The martial artists and skilled Avenger Shang Chi, would help Tamara regain her past memories.

Creation

Tamara Devoux was created to be the new Captain Universe in the expanded team of Avengers by Jonathan Hickman. She was first drawn by Jerome Opena and made her first appearance in Avengers #1.

Tamara Devoux was introduced alongside many new characters and ideas, near the beginning of Jonathan Hickman's multiyear run on Avengers and New Avengers.

The White Event

Captain Universe would empower Adam, transforming him into Nightmask. This would coincide with the White Event empowering a young College student Kevin Conner into Starbrand.

Powers and Abilities

Tamara Devoux, as Captain Universe, possesses incredible superhuman powers and abilities, including generic super strength, enhanced durability, the ability to fly, and energy powers. She can generate and project energy blasts, manipulate limited degrees of matter, of an inorganic and organic nature, transmute and rearrange elements. As Captain Universe, Tamara can also teleport, and can create portals. She also possesses X-Ray vision, telescopic vision, microscopic vision, and Uni vision.

As Captain Universe, she can speak all languages and imbue powers and abilities on to others. As Captain Universe, Tamara also has limited degrees of knowledge of future events. However she is often cryptic and careful about what she reveals, when and to whom.
