Origin

Shockwave!
Shockwave!

Lancaster Sneed served as a demolitions specialist in MI-6, Britain's Secret Intelligence Service, until he was caught in an explosion in North Africa and rebuilt himself with metal plates. Having determined that Sneed had been driven insane by these injuries, which also scarred his face, MI-6 released him from their service and Sneed journeyed to Asia to study martial arts before constructing an exoskeleton that enabled him to generate electricity through his body. Now calling himself Shockwave, Sneed became an operative for the Oriental Expediters (an import-export firm specializing in Far Eastern art which served as a front for the criminal Golden Daggers Sect) and later the S.H.I.E.L.D. Deltite Conspiracy (an advanced Life Model Decoy developed by Arnim Zola which temporarily seized control of S.H.I.E.L.D.).

Since the, Shockwave has offered his services to the highest bidder as a freelance mercenary, and most recently participated in a terrorist plot in London, England, organized by R.A.I.D. (Radically Advanced Ideas in Destruction) before fleeing to Manhattan after an MI-5 / S.H.I.E.L.D. coalition led by Union Jack foiled R.A.I.D.'s plans.

Creation

Shock-Wave was created by Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy in 1976 and first appeared in Master of Kung Fu # 42.

Unfortunately for Shockwave, he arrived shortly after passage of the SHRA and soon determined that Manhattan was no longer an ideal habitat for costumed super-villains. Seeking to illegally obtain American citizenship and set up a base of operations in Texas, Shockwave contacted the freelance spy known only as Vienna. But unknown to Shockwave and the other super-villains who had been dealing with Vienna, she was participating in a sting operation organized by the federally-sanctioned Heroes for Hire bounty hunting team. After Heroes for Hire infiltrated Vienna's headquarters and defeated the assembled super-villains, Shockwave was arrested pursuant to the SHRA.
