Origin

Martinex is from the dwarf planet Pluto, located on the outer edge of the solar system. Circling the sun anywhere from 2.75 to 4.5 billion miles, Pluto has extremely low temperatures. His organic crystalline skin protects him from the high pressures and icy temperatures. Martinex worked as a scientist.

Martinex discovered his home planet, Pluto, decimated by an invading force of Badoon soldiers. There were no survivors on Pluto except for Martinex who escaped to transport himself to another planet, Jupiter. He discovered that Jupiter had been conquered by the Badoon as well but Martinex met a Jovian survivor named Charlie-27. After escaping from the Badoon soldiers, they would soon meet other rebels called Vance Astro and Yondu. Martinex and these other survivors founded the Guardians of the Galaxy to fight the oppression of the Badoon.

Creation

Martinex was created by writer, Arnold Drake, and artist, Gene Colan, in his first appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes vol 1 #18 (1/1969). Mike Esposito was the inker for this issue.

Martinex and the Guardians

No Caption Provided

Martinex was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy for years during the fight for freedom against the Badoon. After driving the Badoon oppressors back to their galaxy, Martinex and the others stayed together as explorers traveling the universe.

Martinex would become the reluctant leader of the group for over two years. He believed that Vance Astro or even Charlie-27 would be better leaders than him for the team. He even offered the spot to Vance, but he refused, saying that Martinex was indeed a good leader. Martinex was nearly killed in a battle with Brahl of Force. Starhawk was able to save him by infusing him with his light, thus changing Martinex's skin.

After the team returned to Earth, Martinex made his announcement. He would be leaving the team to try and form a bigger group to really combat the evil in all of the galaxy. He planned for much more than the few that they had. This group would eventually be formed as the Galactic Guardians.

Guardians 3000

More recently, Martinex and his team where forced to investigate a time-flux that had started to appear in the galaxy, causing many things to 'happen again', though with different outcomes. This caused the team to fight some battles that they already fought as well as not remembering certain events.

Powers & Abilities

Martinex's skin is made of an organic silicon isotope and gives him greater durability than normal humans. He is also able to withstand great pressures and temperatures. He can survive in the vacuum of space and does not require air to breathe.

Martinex can see in absolute darkness thanks to his enhanced Pluvian eyes.

Martinex can fire heat blasts from his right hand and ice beams from his left. His bio-thermal powers are not infinite though, and he will tire with overuse or by using maximum intensity. Martinex's bio-thermal rays have a range of about 25 feet.
