Origin

Cortland and his wife Molly where some of the first settlers in the New World to live in the colony of New York in the year 1664, which had just switched from being New Amsterdam.

Creation

Cortland Kassidy was created by Frank Tieri and Guiu Vilanova and first appeared in Ruins of Ravencroft: Carnage (2020).

The New World and influance of Knull

Cortland and his wife lived happily in the new settlement of New York until his wife was taken captive by a native Indian tribe, whom where whorshippers of Knull. Cortland asked his fellow settelers to help save his wife, but they where afraid to do so. Angerly, Cortland went to the tribe's territory and managed to rescue his wife. Trouble however begain when, instead of fleeing, Cortland decided to return to the tribe's home. He entered a cave belonging to the tribe, finding strange paintings on the walls. There in the cave, Cortland was confronted by many of the tribesman and he was attacked. There, something happened in the cave. Cortland came out an altered man. Walking past his waiting wife, he went back to his settlement and killed a number of innocent townspeople, becoming the first serial-killer of the New World. Cortland was shot and taken into custody and jailed in a small building. Even while she was horrified at her husbands' actions, his wife Molly could not stand to see her man in jail and decided to free him. This however cost her her life, becaude when authorities came to check in on Cortland, he had fled the scene, with only his wife's lifeless body and the text "God is Coming" scrabbeled on the walls of his prison, left behind.

It is assumed that Cortland eventually died, but it is not known how.
