Captain America: The Chosen
Corporal James Newman is a member of the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Afghanistan. Having enlisted in order to end the attcks by zealots who use hate to spread their message, Newman hopes to make America safer for his wife Lori and five-month old son Brad. However, the war is grating on the San Francisco native, as he questions how he can discern his allies from the enemy.
During a firefight, Corporal Newman sees the legendary Captain America appear to aid the ambushed troops. Alongside the Captain, Newman saves his squad. Yet when the dust settles, the members of his unit claim to have only seen Newman in action; Captain America was never there.
Due to the Super-Soldier serum in his body finally breaking down, Steve Rogers is using an experimental government facility to project his consciousness to those in need. Corporal Newman appears to be the most receptive to the project, becoming inspired by the hero to fight the good fight.
