Major Story Arcs

Inspector Fitzroy first catches wind of the unusual talents and interests of the detective team of Boswell and Flynn after they stop Lord Giles, Dr. Pretorius, and the Hand of Four.

Raising Hell

Based on this success, he hires them to investigate a series of demonic appearances. After meeting them, he also starts to become romantically interested in the bodacious Mandy Flynn, occasionally asking her out to very posh restaurants (which his family owns), although his plans are usually blocked by his romantic rival, Salem Hawkshaw. Hawkshaw is a rootin'-tootin' cowboy of the American west, and takes issues with Fitzroy's airs. Fitzroy is a member of the highest society who happens to be slumming as an inspector because he thinks it is important work. Although he is very conservative himself, he appreciates the work Mandy and Bozz do on their outre subjects, and once again they solve the case, tracing the demons back to a secret sorcerer, Harrison Townes.

The Tomorrow Man

Fitzroy discovers that a number of murder victims have strange objects upon their person--objects that we would recognize as a digital watch, velcro, and so on, but which do not exist in his era. He once again calls on Mandy and Bozz to look into the matter, while once again trying to put the moves on Mandy. The detectives once again solve the case: the objects come from a time machine invented by the mad scientist Dr. Paine, who is killed in the confrontation.

Fitzroy is later contacted by Chief Baka, an Oxford-educated African leader. A sacred jewel was stolen from his tribe, and he suspects it was smuggled into England. Fitzroy once again asks Mandy and Bozz to look into it, and he finally manages to avoid Salem and take Mandy on a date at an exclusive restaurant. Mandy reciprocates his interest and apparently stays the night at his place.

She, Bozz, and Salem once again solve the case and find the jewel, which had been stolen by the explorer Colonel Carruthers. When they return it to Chief Baka, the reserved Fitzroy is stunned to see the equally-cultured Baka fall down and worship Bozz. It seems that Baka's people have a legend about Bozz's race of aliens, which they believe to be gods.

Fighting Salem

As an agent of the Crown, Fitzroy accompanies Mandy, Salem, Bozz, and Baka back to Baka's homeland. where Bozz hopes to find other traces of his kind. The friction between Fitzroy and Salem heats up as they both compete over Mandy, but they both start to annoy her with their childishness; and in any case she is in love with Bozz. Finally after they escape a veldt fire by jumping into a mud pool, their tempers flare and they get into a fist fight.

Fitzroy, who was trained in pugilism as a student, gives as good as he gets against the ex-boxer Salem. They start to have grudging respect for each other due to their equality as fighters. Ultimately they realize that Mandy might be in danger from a shifty man they met earlier, Jan Kruger, and they rush off to save her together.

They save her as a team. After Kruger is defeated, they return home to London as friends, although all of their mutual romantic entanglements remain unresolved.
