The Assassin was hired by an anonymous man representing the past foes of the Avengers to kill them for $1 billion. The Assassin almost succeeded in killing Captain America but Dr. Donald Blake carried out the life-saving operation. She was then revealed to be a nurse named Maria at the same hospital that tried to poison Iron Man and Hawkeye. When she tried to escape, the Assassin was gunned down by her own men, who did not recognize her. The man who hired her was actually her father. When her brother Angelo appeared to seek revenge, her father shot him and then committed suicide.
