The Owl
Originally conceived by Frank Thomas, the Owl, like Batman, was a creature of the night. When not in costume, the Owl is a police special investigator.

Origin
Nick Terry was a New York private detective, engaged to Belle Wayne, star reporter for the New York Eagle. To Nick Terry, keeping the town safe meant that he must sometimes operate outside the law. Thus, when his police tactics fail, at midnight Nick heads for his hideout on the top of a mountain and becomes the Owl.
Creation
The Owl was created in 1940 by Frank Thomas. He had his last issue in the 40s in Popular Comics #85 (March 1943). He was briefly resurrected in 1967 as part of Western Publishing's Gold Key line. In the 90s, The Owl was used by AC Comics as part of their reuse of public domain characters. In 2008, Dynamite Entertainment used The Owl in their Project Superpowers line, where dozens of public domain characters were placed in modern times.
Powers & Abilities
Apart from judo and his unique crimefighting hardware, the Owl has no extraordinary abilities. He does have:
- An airborne Owlmobile equipped with Owl-bombs and a black light ray which casts pitch darkness
- Ultrasonically controlled robot Owlos, which work like bloodhounds when given a trail of any kind or can be used to dive-bomb and distract adversaries
- The Owl's cape doubles as a parachute
- An Owl-gun, which shoots a "Ga-Ga Ray" that makes people act like owls
