Baron Münchhausen

History

The Fictionalized character is based on a real life German counterpart by the name of Karl Friedrich Hieronymus, Freiherr von Münchhausen who lived between 11 May 1720 – 22 February 1797. He was a captain in the Russian Calvary and often fought in campaigns against the Turks.

The real Münchhausen had a reputation for telling tall tails of his exploits during the war. It was these tails that helped inspire a fictionalized version of the Baron and his adventures in many artistic and literary forms that followed. Throughout history, the Baron and his Adventures have been the subject matter of everything from books, cartoons, drawings, comics and even several films. He is usually teamed-up with 4 remarkable associates, each with their own unique ability.
