Literary History

First seen in the story Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Cambrioleur in1907, Arsene Lupin, the brilliant master burglar and thief with a heart of gold, has also played the roles of hero and anti-hero for little over a century now. Lupin has also battled the likes of Sherlock Holmes (or one of many lawyer-friendly pastiches), matching his wits against the Master Detective in numerous occasions.
While he may be considered a crook and criminal by the law, most of his 'victims' tend to be worse by comparison. Sometimes his crimes have ulterior/positive motives, and he very rarely does more than injure anyone who tries to stop him.

In the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen (LOEG) Lupin is one of the Les Hommes Mysterieux. They are the French counterpart to the LOEG.
