Flynn Rider is very self confident and a skilled thief. However, he's dishonest and was entirely willing to turn his back on his seconds, the Stabbington brothers.
He is also pursued by Maximus.
This all changes when he meets Rapunzel and reveals that he was originally an orphan named Eugene Fitzhubert who cared for the other orphans and read them tales of the incredible Flynn Rider.
He reforms though, and is willing to turn away from his life of crime to be with Rapunzel. He is now an upstanding citizen.
