History

Milestone Media

Dakotavrese

A villain named Dr. Sugarman broke into his lab and tried to steal the virus. David was injured and injected with the untested virus. He became Xombi, a technologically enhanced human being who battles the Shadow Worlds. At one point he was part of Star Chamber with Rocket, and has appeared since the merger of the Dakotaverse into the DC universe.

He was the first Milestone character to confront Dr. Nemo.

David willingly works with Jewish mystics and super-powered Catholic operatives to fight and contain threats against humanity.

DC Universe

The Brave and the Bold

Xombi even team-up with The Spectre.

Earth-M

Duo

Xombi was originally set to appear in the upcoming Milestone revival "Earth M" series in 2018. As of August 22nd 2020, Xombi will return to mainstream in February 2021. An online sampler, Milestone Returns Zero, was released online for free at DC Fandome on September 12th 2020.

It is revealed that Xombi's origin story was retcon. Instead of being solo, this time he is joined by female companion, Kelly Sanborne, who together are called "Duo". Kim's partner had her last name changed to Vu and the two of them have been married for a few years. They were scientists researching a means of using nanotech to discover cures to sickness and other physiological malady's. When the two wouldn't sell their technology to the billionaire backer whom originally funded their research when he offered a sizable price for it.

An assailant turned up at their house laboratory armed with a suicide bomb to destroy all their research.

When she discovered her husband had been caught in the blast which totaled their work station. Kelly Vu would try to use their work to save his life, but was consumed by it in the process of healing him.

Instead of dying however, her brainwaves were mapped onto his anima and now the two must work together to find out more about their circumstances and reasons as to why everything that happened happened.

Powers & Abilities

Pre/Post DCnU

Mr. Kim's abilities were the simple appellation of enhanced regenerative and recuperative microbiological technologies which repaired and rejuvenated his body by recycling any and all waste products. As well as taking the necessary mass from surrounding elements to repair his damaged body. Essentially giving the titular Xombi biological immortality. In his second volume, Kim figured out how to transmute and generate molecularly altered materials by ingesting and studying the substances he'd work over through his nanotechnology.

Milestone Returns

While many of the facilities his nanite gave him in prior serialization remain much the same. His psychologically conjoined state affords Drs. Kim and Kelly more autonomous dexterity with how they function and what all can be done with them. Now not only do they have greater manual control over the regenerative and material assimilative properties of their nanite altered philogyny. Duo can utilize for so much more than simply repairing bodily structural damage; such as self-sustenance, transformative metamorphosis, intangibility, flight and much more.
