Origin

Xera was one of the numerous prisoners of Universo, and as such she was freed when Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Chameleon Boy, and Dream Girl led the escape from his facility.

Creation

Xera was a character created or the series by DC Comics The Legion of Super-Heroes. She appeared in Legion of Super-Heroes (v3) #32-33.

History

Major Storylines

Xera Kharindot is the hereditary successor of an ability to control and manipulate the elements. She is the princess of Manna-5, the heir of two royal bloodlines combined, each one worshiping a different nature goddess. Xera must perform seasonal rituals in order to honor the two goddesses her family worships, and to renew her abilities, as had every champion before her.

She cannot leave Manna-5 for more than a year or her abilities will fade. It's for this reason that she hasn't shown an interest in joining the Legion of Super-Heroes or any other off-world organization. But she has shown interest in searching for a man with inheritable powers that can increase the strength of her bloodline.

Xera was one of many heroes who were kidnapped and brainwashed by Universo during his scheme to control Earth and outlaw the Legion. Upon her release, Xera showed interest in some of the male captives, but she found none to her liking. At the time she decided that it would be in both her best interests and the interests of her planet to perform more diplomatic journeys to other planets.

5-Year Gap

Eventually, Xera joined the Legion Academy. Whether this means she had changed her mind about joining the Legion of Super-Heroes or perhaps just wanted to learn how use her powers better was not revealed.

During the "Five Years Later" continuity of the Legion, Xera was a member of the United Planets Military Academy alongside the former members of the Legion of Substitute Heroes, former Legionnaires Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel, and the former members of the Legion Academy. Here in full cadet uniform she assisted during a training mission with various fellow alumni.

This timeline has since been wiped out by the machinations of the Time Trapper and Glorith and this Xera has not appeared since.

Powers and Abilities

Xera had control over the elements, fire, wind, earth, and water to a limited degree and proficiency She was only ever shown parting water.

Equipment

As cadet of the United Planets Military Academy, Xera is allowed the use of a Legion Flight Ring. The ring gives its wearer the ability to fly, the speed and range of which is determined by the wearer's willpower. It also acts as a long-range communicator (enabling constant vocal contact with other Legionnaires, even across vast distances of space), a signal device, and a navigational compass, all powered by a micro-computer built inside the ring.
