Origin

Raised alongside her twin brother Vykin on New Genesis, Serafina attended and graduated from the Academy of Higher Conscience there. Following graduation she became determined to join Mark Moonrider on his humanitarian trip to Earth, despite the objections of her brother.

Creation

Serifan was created by Jack Kirby. The character was substantially rebooted by Dan DiDio and Keith Giffen.

Character Evolution

Bronze Age

When first introduced in the Bronze Age, Serifan was a male New God who was raised on New Genesis alongside his close friends, with whom he later formed the Forever People. When Beautiful Dreamer, was kidnapped by Darkseid as part of the war on the New Gods, Serifan and the rest of the Forever People went to Earth to rescue her. There, they were aided by Superman and a cosmic being summoned by their Mother Box, called Infinity Man. After Beautiful Dreamer was rescued, Serifan and the other Forever People decided to remain on Earth, in order to explore both the planet and their roots. During this Age, Serifan was a low-level telepath, and wielded a six-shooter gun that fired "cosmic cartridges," which have numerous, varied, and largely uncatalogued uses. Displayed uses include to create forcefields, link the wielder to the Source, and negate gravity, among other uses that went mostly unexplored.

Modern Age

In the very early Modern Age, he and the other Forever People were retconned into being humans who had been doomed to die as infants, and were only saved from this fate by the New Gods, who took the children to New Genesis and raised them there as the eventual protectors of the Earth. This retcon was soon itself retconned, however, and Serifan was re-established as a New God, and implied to be the next step in the New Gods' evolutionary process.

New 52

The character was substantially updated for the New 52, which introduced her new origin, familial relationship to Vykin, gender, and powers.

Major Story Arcs

The Forever People

Serifan adventures with the Forever People, and fights Darkseid alongside his friends, for the whole of their self-titled series. During an encounter with Devilance the Pursuer, he and the other Forever People exchanged places with Infinity Man, leaving them on the distant planet of Adon. He was stranded there along with his friends after the apparent destruction of both Infinity Man and Devilance. On Adon, he is greatly distressed by the death of his friend Vykin, following the latter's attempts to civilize the planets. Following his friend's death, he is possessed by the entity known as the Dark, which uses Serifan's body to antagonize the remaining Forever People and take over the town they have created, Forevertown. When the Dark is finally defeated, Serifan is returned to normal and everything that had happened to the Forever People while on Adon, including the death of Vykin, is reversed.

Death of the New Gods

During the Death of the New Gods, Serifan is killed by Infinity Man, as are the other members of the Forever People. He is revealed to have been dead for quite some time prior to the discovery of his body, as were his teammates.

Infinity Man and the Forever People

Serafina travels to Earth along with the other Forever People on a humanitarian mission to help humanity reach their evolutionary potential. There, she joins the team in fighting Mantis, and later accidentally gives superhuman abilities to the maniacal Doctor Skuba.

Alternate Versions

Amalgam Universe

A version of Serifan appears in the Amalgam Universe, as a member of the Un-People, a team created by the fusion of the Forever People and the Inhumans. This version of the character is called Triserinak, created by an amalgamation of Serifan, Triton and Karnak.

Gods and Monsters

Serifan appears among a number of other so-called "Forever People," the result of genetic manipulations to make old and decrepit humans young and superhumanly powerful.

Powers and Abilities

As a New God, Serafina has all the powers inherent to her race, and is capable of sensing fluctuations in the Source. She possesses an ability to project disorientating lights, referred to as "bio-bursts," which can be used to startle or confuse her enemy.

Weapons and Equipment

Serafina carries various "cosmic cartridges," the exact nature or use of which is largely unknown. They can be used to give individuals superhuman powers, which she is also able to extract, again by unknown means. Other uses are presumed but have never been demonstrated. She also has access to a Mother Box, which she shares with the other Forever People. With the Forever People, and facilitated by the Mother Box, she can merge into the consciousness of the Infinity Man.
