Origin

At one point, Nate began to work at Arkham Asylum as a security guard. He would eventually become pretty familiar with the Inmates but claimed to never know what to expect from them.

Creation

Nate was created by legendary writer Len Wein and artist Tom Grummett. He first appeared in Secret Origins #44

Major Story Arcs

His Name is Clayface III

Nate shows new guard Al around the Asylum, introducing Mad Hatter, Two-Face and Joker to the "rookie". Nate then shows him the cell of Preston Payne (A.K.A. The 3rd Clayface) and they both listen to Payne recounting his origin to a store-mannequin named Helena who he is in love with. Nate also remarks to Al that Payne is even more insane than the rest of the inmates at Arkham.
