Tanner's mother often used illegal, highly experimental narcotics to get high, and Mary Kay was born with meta-human powers that gave her leatherlike skin and claws. At 16 she had become the leader of a band of "coyotes," who smuggled illegal immigrants back and forth between Mexico and the U.S. leather was captured ans incarcerated in the women's block of the Slab penitentiary. However, she was freed by the Joker and has returned to smuggling in Mexico.
