Esak was a child from the planet New Genesis who became the protege of the cosmic explorer Metron. Accompanying Metron in the mobius chair, Esak viewed many wonders of the cosmos. Under Metron's guidance Esak became a brilliant technologist.

While Metron was away on a long quest, Esak conducted experiments, one of which led to an accident that ruined Esak's face and embittered his soul. He turned to creating weaponry based on the "micro-mark" technology he had devised for Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips.

Finally Orion, champion of New Genesis confronted and slew Esak. Orion prayed to the enigmatic Source for Esak, and Esak regained his original face in death.
