As a boy in North Korea, Devour was suddenly overcome with a hunger for metallic objects. The more he ate, the more his body started to transform into mechanical parts. He was attacked for being a monster in a local hospital but was saved at the last minute by Lex Luthor, who presumably snuck him out of the country to be a part of Red Hood's class.
