Origin

Darling-Come-Home was one of Dorothy Spinner's imaginary friends who she created during her lonely childhood. The wife of Damn All and mother of Flying Robert, she and her imaginary family played with Dorothy, told her stories, and taught her to read and write. She was shot to death by Dorothy when she was eleven and they began to tell her stories that she found frightening.

Creation

Darling-Come-Home was created by Grant Morrison and Doug Braithwaite. She made her first appearance in Doom Patrol #25.

Major Story Arcs

Imaginary Friends

Darling-Come-Home and the rest of her family are summoned up by Dorothy Spinner's psionic powers, combined with the presence of the materioptikon. She tries to force Dorothy to put on a pair of red shoes, which are a metaphor for growing up, and sings her a song about shoes. She chases Dorothy down when she is rescued by Joshua Clay. They are defeated when Joshua destroys the materioptikon and Dorothy accepts the need to grow up, and puts on the red shoes, which are now ruby slippers.

Who Am I?

Darling-Come-Home is summoned up by Dorothy's mind while Dorothy is in a coma. Identifying herself as Dorothy's mother, she speaks to Robotman about Dorothy's fears and insecurities. She vanishes after warning him that Dorothy's mind may cause bad things to happen.

Powers and Abilities

Darling-Come-Home is a psychic construct. As such, she is functionally immortal for as long as her creator exists, and could presumably continue to exist for as long as the idea of her lives somewhere in someone's mind. She has reality warping abilities, but only so long as she is in proximity to a materioptikon. She can levitate herself.
