Origin

Awkwardman is the son of Mr. Might and the Mermaid (parodies of Superman and Aquaman, respectively). A beachcomber by day, he and several other superhero progeny join together and form the Inferior Five.

Creation

Awkwardman was created by E Nelson Bridwell, Mike Esposito and Joe Orlando.

Major Story Arcs

The Inferior Five

With his team of misfit superheroes, Awkwardman goes on a series of adventures that result, to the surprise of all involved, in victory for the team.

Angel and the Ape

Awkwardman joins his team in battling Gorilla Grodd with Angel O'Day and Sam Simeon. Awkwardman and Blimp are sent to the roof to help guide their gorilla allies, but accidentally knock over a water tower, causing the gorillas to believe they are under attack. The gorillas shoot at them, but they survive and rejoin their team, ultimately defeating Grodd.

The Brave and the Bold

Awkwardman and the team are plucked out of 1972 by the Legion of Substitute Heroes. The two teams share a misadventure. At its conclusion, Awkwardman and the rest of the team are accidentally dropped off in 2010.

Bat-Mite

Awkwardman joins his team in fighting the forces of Gridlock. When Bat-Mite arrives and reboots the team, he is transformed into the vertigo-inducing Tripper. He becomes much more successful, but also more vicious. He is turned back to normal at Tough Bunny's request.

Alternate Versions

The Superior 5

Tremor, of the Superior 5, is a villainous, serious adaptation of Awkwardman.

Powers and Abilities

He inherited both parents' powers, meaning he is super strong and able to live underwater. This second power comes with the condition that he occasionally must submerge himself in water or otherwise come in contact with water, often achieved by pouring water over his head. Outside of water he is incredibly clumsy, hence the name.
