Side Note
Due to Star Trek Canon Konom does not exist in the Star Trek Universe.  This is because only film and television count as Star Trek canon as established by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.  When Worf becomes a character on Star Trek the Next Generation he is established as the first Klingon in Starfleet ignoring the earlier comics with Konom.

Character Origin
Konom was a great and upcoming warrior in the Klingon Empire.  He served under two legendary Klingon Commanders Kor aboard the Klothos and Koloth.  Due to his displeasure with his own culture he later defected to the Federation and became an officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise A.  He also developed a loving relationship with Nancy Bryce.

Creation

Konom is one of the biggest Star Trek characters in comics who never appeared in a Star Trek episode or film.  Due to the nature of Star Trek Canon his whole existence has been destroyed.  If he ever is established as a charter he will have to be considered as an alternate universe character or be completely different than the original concept in comics.
