Joseph Latimer (known as Reese Latimer in the prime universe) was the helmsman of the shuttlecraft Galileo for mission assigned by Captain Kirk of the Enterprise. The mission, led by the First Officer Commander Spock, was to explore Murasaki 312, an unusual space anomaly. When the shuttlecraft entered the anomaly, the energy sent it to Taurus II. While exploring Taurus II, Latimer was killed by one of the natives using a spear that bared a resemblance to a Folsom Point from prehistoric North America as Spock noticed.
