Mr. Burns is Springfield's richest and most powerful citizen, with an estimated net worth of $16.8 billion. He uses his power and wealth to do routinely what he wants without thinking of consequences or interference from the authorities.

Mr. Burns has not always been so rich. There was an episode where he lost all of his money due to the people around him that worked for him were nothing but “yes” men. He was basing his decisions on information from decades ago, and managed to loose all of his money.

Mr. Burns was able to regain his wealth and power plant that the bank had repossessed, by hiring Lisa Simpson to be his advisor. Together, Lisa and Burns were able to build a new fortune from scratch by recycling.

Mr.Burns has recently owned the Springfield Celtics, later called the Springfield Excitement. Unfortunately, It was torn up by fierce mutated bees from Africa. He won this fortune by winning against a Texan billionaire at a poker game after he bet his basketball team on winning. This move ended bad for Mr.Burns turning him into only a millionaire instead of a billionaire.

Mr.Burns had revealed his very incredible, lightweight to Bart Simpson. He weighs as much as his clothing and keys. Mr.Burns may have nearly limitless money, but has barely any strength at all most likely for his age and his low body weight that is not enough to acquire any muscle. This is demonstrated many times for example once he had difficulty crushing a paper cup.
